Lamentations 3:22-23 (NIV)


“Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”


New Morning, Same Faithful God


Jeremiah wrote these words in the middle of devastation. Jerusalem had fallen, grief surrounded him, and very little about his circumstances looked hopeful. Yet in the middle of all that sorrow, he remembered something greater than what he could see: the character of God had not changed.


“Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed.” That is grace. We are still here not because we have handled everything perfectly, prayed perfectly, or remained strong every day, but because God has been merciful. His compassion does not depend upon our ability to deserve it. It flows from who He is.


Then comes that beautiful promise: “They are new every morning.” Yesterday may have contained failure, disappointment, unanswered prayer, or things we wish we could undo. But God does not ask us to survive today on yesterday’s supply of mercy. He meets us again this morning.


And notice how Jeremiah finishes: “great is your faithfulness.” Our circumstances may change. Our emotions certainly do. We can be confident one day and discouraged the next. But God does not fluctuate with us.


Perhaps September begins with burdens August did not resolve. Bring them into this new month, but do not carry them alone. The same God who sustained you yesterday has already provided mercy for today.


New morning. New mercies. Same faithful God.
